Frequently Asked Questions
How do the workshops compare tot he Couples or Marriage Counseling? Whether you choose to work on your relationship in the Couples Workshop, or in Couples or Marriage Counseling with a Gottman Certified Therapist, you are in good hands. In both venues you will be actively working with your partner in structured exercises designed to build your connection and increase understanding and empathy for one another even when you disagree. The workshop is a very powerful change agent for most couples. Some couples may need more assistance than can be provided in a workshop setting. If you have any questions about the best fit for your particular situation, feel free to call Estrella to discuss your options
Can we attend the workshop even if we aren't married? Yes. All couples are welcome. This may in fact be the best time to work on and build upon your relationship!
I’d love to come to your workshop, but my partner is a private person and is not comfortable sharing in a group setting. No problem. Couples sit as an audience during the lectures, and only engage quietly together in break out rooms . There is no group work, and no mandatory sharing.
Who attends the couples workshops? Couples of all ages, incomes, races, nationalities, professions, religions, abilities, and orientations attend our workshops. Couples attend who already have a strong, healthy relationship, and couples attend to repair relationship damage and get back on track. Parents sometimes attend who have decided to end their relationship but want to do so in a way that doesn’t negatively impact their children, and receive skills to become healthy co-parents moving forward. We welcome all couples who want to work on making their relationship stronger.
Is this workshop appropriate for premarital couples? Yes. We strongly encourage attending our workshop as premarital preparation.
How is this workshop different from The Art & Science of Love Weekend Workshop? The Seven Principles Program is a 1-day workshop that focuses solely on the seven principles found through Dr. Gottman's research to enhance a relationship. This workshop expands upon the invaluable information found within his book The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. The Art & Science of Love Weekend Workshop is a 2-day workshop that includes a greater depth of coverage on the seven principles, while also going into a wider array of Dr. Gottman's research and exercises as they apply to your relationship. The Art & Science of Love also offers a greater chance for a Certified Gottman Therapist to assist you personally when stuck during exercises.
